The Platform

Everything an installer
needs, nothing they don't.

Nova Metrics covers the entire lifecycle of a solar project — from designing a system and winning the client, through managing the installation on-site and producing a proper handover. The whole business, in one place.

The platform does the heavy lifting: structured engineering calculations, your hardware catalogue, 152 SA locations, a 25-year financial model, and a branded proposal — all connected. You bring the expertise; Nova Metrics makes sure it shows in every deliverable you produce.

System Sizing Engine
Solar arrays, batteries, and inverters sized from actual load profiles — from Essential Only (1.5 kW) to Large Commercial (15 kW). Multi-gate engineering validation. DC/AC ratios, autonomy, battery DoD all checked before a design is accepted.
🔋
Battery Intelligence
Selects the right LiFePO4 configuration based on capacity headroom, depth-of-discharge, and autonomy runtime. Designed to maximise cycle life, not just hit a kWh number. Industry-standard 92% round-trip efficiency applied by default.
📈
Financial Modelling
25-year indicative projections: NERSA-aligned tariff escalation, NPV, IRR, O&M provisions, insurance estimates, and battery lifecycle costs. Engineering-grade outputs that clients can actually understand and act on.
📄
Branded Proposals
Every calculated figure feeds into a professional, branded PDF proposal with your logo and company colours. System specs, financials, environmental impact, NERSA SSEG status — one click, client-ready. The narrative is written for you.
📋
Proposal Portal & Tracking
Send proposals via email or WhatsApp, track and manage from a dedicated dashboard. Pipeline view, engagement tracking (views, downloads, read time), and follow-up priority signals — Hot, Warm, Cold.
🔧
Job Portal
Won the deal? It moves straight into the Job Portal. Site visit assessment, installation checklists, COC tracking, and a digital handover certificate — all structured, all connected, nothing falling through the gaps.
Engineering Methodology

Built on structured
engineering logic

Every number in a Nova Metrics design is derived from structured calculations — not rules of thumb. The platform is built in alignment with NRS 097-2-1 and NERSA SSEG guidelines for residential and small commercial SSEG Category A & B installations — not as a compliance layer added afterwards, but as the foundation of the sizing methodology itself.

01
Load-based solar sizing
Solar is sized to cover daytime consumption plus overnight battery recharge, using industry-standard performance ratios and system availability benchmarks. Matched to the most suitable panel configuration from your live catalogue — not a generic estimate.
Solar Array
02
Multi-gate battery validation
Three checks before accepting any battery configuration: capacity headroom above required storage, depth-of-discharge within design targets, and guaranteed autonomy runtime. Configured to protect LiFePO4 cycle life with real per-battery DoD and efficiency values.
Battery
03
Inverter sizing & compliance check
Inverter sized with an engineering safety margin over peak load. DC/AC ratio validated in alignment with NRS 097-2-1 parameters. Every inverter in your catalogue is cross-referenced against the South African Master Inverter Compliance Register — 2,440+ certified models on record.
Inverter · NRS 097-2-1
04
365-day net yield modelling
Annual production estimates apply performance ratios, system availability factors, and panel degradation assumptions aligned with South African norms. Location-specific irradiance pulled from 152 SA locations. Specific yield benchmarked against national reference values.
Yield
05
Engineering-grade financials
25-year indicative projections using NERSA-aligned tariff escalation, NPV and IRR modelling with industry-standard discount rates, maintenance provisions, insurance estimates, and battery replacement lifecycle costs. All figures clearly marked as indicative estimates.
NPV · IRR · Financials
06
Engagement pipeline intelligence
Once a proposal is sent, the platform tracks email opens, proposal views, PDF downloads, and read time. A follow-up priority signal — Hot, Warm, Cold — tells you exactly who to call and when, without manually tracking every lead in a spreadsheet.
Analytics
On NRS 097-2-1
Built in,
not bolted on
The platform is built in alignment with NRS 097-2-1 because the sizing logic was designed around it. Inverter DC/AC ratios, battery DoD limits, and grid connection guidance are part of the calculation model — not a checkbox you tick afterwards.
On proposals
The numbers
come first
The engineering calculations run first. The proposal narrative is then written around those verified numbers. Clients read a professional document — but everything in it is grounded in a structured engineering model, not a language model guessing.
On installers
You stay
in control
Your hardware catalogue, your branding, your margins. The platform works from what you upload — your panels, inverters, and batteries drive every design. Nova Metrics handles the calculation and the paperwork; you handle the relationship and the installation.

Proposals

A proposal that
looks the part

The engineering output — system size, financials, components, yield — is all calculated first. The proposal narrative is then written around those verified numbers, structured into sections any client can follow.

Clients receive a document that reads like it came from a professional engineering firm. Because it was built on exactly that standard of data. Your branding on the cover, your hardware in the BOM, your identity on every page.

  • Your logo, colours, and contact details on every page
  • System specs, NPV/IRR financials, environmental estimates
  • Professional narrative written around your calculated numbers

Installation Pipeline

Five steps, every job,
every time — no exceptions

Every won job moves through a defined pipeline. Each stage unlocks when the previous one is complete, creating a clean audit trail from site assessment to customer sign-off.

1
Site Visit Assessment
Roof condition, electrical infrastructure, shading analysis, cable run, meter type, DB board, and recommended system. If specs differ from the proposal, a design change is flagged — triggering the client approval workflow.
2
Installation Preparation
Team lead, team members, scheduled date, and full equipment spec — panel brand and watts, inverter, battery. Locks in exactly what goes to site.
3
Installation Checklist
Pre-installation, structural and mounting, electrical wiring, and commissioning checklists. Tick off with notes as the team works through each item.
4
Final Sign-off
As-installed system specs, any outstanding punch list items, inspector name and date. Marks the installation complete before handover proceeds.
5
Customer Handover
COC number, issuing electrician, grid approval status, customer training confirmation, warranty details, and a printable Handover Certificate signed by both parties.
Design Change Management

When the site doesn’t match
the original proposal

It happens. The assessor gets on-site and the roof orientation is wrong, the DB board needs upgrading, or the cable run is twice what was assumed. The original proposal specs no longer fit — and the client needs to know.

Nova Metrics handles this properly. When a site visit flags a design change, the platform generates a revised proposal version, calculates the exact delta against the original accepted specs, notifies the client with a secure approval link, and holds the job until a decision is made. Nothing moves forward on an unapproved change.

  • Installer flags the change with a reason and category at site visit
  • Original proposal specs stored and compared to revised design
  • Delta calculated: system kW, battery kWh, cost, and percentage change
  • New proposal version created with full revision history
  • Client notified with a unique secure approval link — they accept or decline
  • Job locked until client decision is recorded — full audit trail throughout
Why this matters

Most solar businesses handle design changes over WhatsApp, with no record of what the client agreed to or when. Nova Metrics turns an awkward conversation into a documented, timestamped approval process — protecting both the installer and the client.

How a design change flows through the platform
Proposal accepted by client
Original system specs locked in. Solar kW, battery kWh, inverter, and total cost recorded as the baseline. Job moves into the portal.
Baseline stored
Site visit flags a design change
Assessor marks design_changed = true at site, records the reason and change category (roof, shading, electrical, or cable run). The original specs are preserved for comparison — nothing is overwritten.
Reason & category recorded
Revised proposal version created
A new version is generated with the updated system specs. The platform calculates the exact delta: system size change in kW, battery kWh change, cost delta in rand, and percentage change. All stored against the original.
Delta calculated automatically
Client notified with a secure approval link
The client receives the revised proposal and a unique link to review and respond. The platform records when the notification was sent, when the client opened it, and when they responded — automatically.
Timestamped · no chasing needed
🔒
Job locked until a decision is made
Installation preparation cannot proceed while a change is pending client approval. The job status reflects this — the team can see exactly what’s holding it up and why.
No one accidentally proceeds
Client approves (or declines) — job continues
If approved, the revised version is locked in and the job unlocks. If declined, the reason is recorded and the installer is notified. Either way, the full decision history is in the audit trail.
Full audit trail · both outcomes handled
